 Romantic Breaks

For an ideal Romantic break we can offer couples a beautiful French Château set in exquisite surroundings with lovely bedrooms overlooking our private lake surrounded by 100 year old Chestnut trees. Add excellent cuisine and service, and then pamper your loved one with champagne, flowers and chocolates. Some of our bedrooms in the Château have four-poster beds and Jacuzzis. The Bridal Suite and its en suite bathroom is about the size of a tennis court!

 Cultural Breaks

The region surrounding the Château du Broutel is a goldmine of historical and cultural experiences. The countryside around the Château is littered with Bronze and Iron Age forts and villages. During Roman times Rue was the main port of the region. In the Middle Ages the area was the main scene of conflict during the 100 years war with the battles of Crécy and Agincourt being fought nearby. The Somme became synonymous with the First World War. During the Second World War the Château itself was used by a Panzer tank division. Abbeville, 20 minutes away, was the main airfield for the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain. Gothic architecture, especially cathedrals are also found widespread. The principle example is the exceptional cathedral in Amiens, a World Heritage site, (twice the size and more dramatic than Notre Dame in Paris). Quite frankly a cultural short break would never be long enough to explore the region around Le Château du Broutel.

 Leisure Breaks

The diversity of the region is extraordinary and Le Château du Broutel is perfectly placed to benefit from all the possibilities on offer. Historical or Architectural sites range back from the Iron Age to Roman sites to mediaeval cathedrals and the battlefields of the First and Second World Wars. Sports enthusiasts have a choice of an abundance of top quality golf courses. Le Touquet tennis club with over 50 shale and hard courts and 6 indoor courts; windsurfers at Le Crotoy, Land Yachting at Hardelot and swimming at Berck sur Mer. The region is particularly famous for its fishing and hunting. The interesting places to visit within 45 minutes of the Château include St Valery sur Somme (a picturesque little port from where William the Conqueror set sail in 1066); a Chocolate factory, a Snail Farm, a Goat Farm, a Steam Railway, one of Europe's largest Ornithological Parks, Sandy Beaches, Castles, Cathedrals and the list goes on. Paris is only two hours by car or two and a half hours by train. Theme parks which can also be accessible from the Château are Disneyland® Resort Paris, Walt Disney® Studios, Parc Asterix and Bagetelle.

 Shopping Breaks

The Château is perfectly situated for shopaholics with a large variety of shopping within easy driving distance. At the entrance of the Eurotunnel you will find Cité Europe, one of the most popular shopping malls in Northern France offering Tesco and Carrefour Supermarkets plus clothing boutiques, jewellery etc. Close to Calais are many warehouses specialising in cut price wines, beers and cigarettes. Le Touquet is famous for their upmarket boutiques offering the latest designer wear, while in Amiens 40 minutes from Le Château du Broutel, the Capital of the Somme region, is well known for its Saturday and Christmas markets as well as the range of quality department stores. By the river in the Latin Quarter you will find book stores and antique shops. Paris can be reached either by train direct from Rue or by car, which takes approximately two hours. However, if you want to just relax at the Château our shop offers a choice of quality wines and a range of local produce. You can also purchase Château du Broutel souvenirs such as crockery supporting the Château logo and our own Château labelled wine.
